What's It All About?

Getting to know others who either have lived it or are currently living it are a great resource and comfort. I believe community to be one of the strong healing pillars of chronic pain management...connecting, communicating, sharing . Even better than Facebook, this is an opportunity to get to know each other with great conversation, company and coaching.

By it's very definition, forum means a place, meeting, or medium where ideas and views on a particular issue can be exchanged. Pain can be very isolating both physically and emotionally and so we have created this online forum as a safe, positive space to lean into one other with open, honest conversations and meaningful connections. You are also welcome to just listen in if that makes you feel more at ease.

Online Zoom meetings happen on the first Wednesday of each month at 4:00 PM EST. Once registered you will receive an email with a link to join in the group. The forum typically runs for 60 - 90 mins in total with posture breaks woven in. Meeting face to face is usually optimal but the online forum has it's perks commute, done from the comfort of your own home and access to snacks and pillows, need I say more?

  • expressing your feelings with others who know and understand what you are going through
  • making meaningful connections is a vital part of combating stress, anxiety, depression and isolation
  • taking your pain management to a new level by reaching beyond just the medication
  • a safe space to connect with others without judgement

Is a chronic pain support forum good for me?

  • Do you feel isolated because of your chronic pain?
  • Do you need more emotional support?
  • Do you feel like no one in your life understands what you're going through?
  • Do you need help finding ways to cope with your pain?
  • Are you ready to learn more about your pain and how to manage it?

If you answer 'yes' to any of these questions then a support group could serve you well.

I was just thinking yesterday how much I appreciate you. On the Wednesdays that we come together, you deliver great conversation and topics that are relevant. I have to admit sometimes I don’t feel like coming but I am always glad that I did and leave feeling better. I really value the time we spend together chatting and laughing, sometimes crying — you are always so real, honest, and positive. It’s very much appreciated by me!

And you are a ray of sunshine and hope! So grateful to have met you and so much more hopeful I will get my life back. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!

Q & A

Who is this support forum for?

This support forum is for those who live with chronic pain and who could use extra support in an environment where people understand what you experience day in and day out. The support forum helps people in pain whose caregivers may be getting burned out and those who may not always be able to rely on family members for support or who may not have any family to lean into.

Why now?

Pain can be very isolating.  Throw a pandemic in the mix and pain and isolation become worse. Now more than ever there is a deep need to connect and heal collectively. Support groups are a great way to learn new pain management skills, connect in meaningful ways and feel a sense of community.

How is the meeting run?

We are creating a space for the grief and the hardship, but also for hope and encouragement. It is my mission to keep the sessions a balance of the two. We will offer opportunities to share our thoughts with each other and to learn new pain management skills. In these forums we do not talk about medications and/or dosages but rather about the psychological and social aspects of pain and pain management.

Who leads the sessions?

Sessions are primarily lead by Deana. As a chronic pain coach, Deana will lead the sessions and present different topics for discussion. There will be times when our mentors facilitate a session or two. Mentoring offers a great sense of purpose to those leading the sessions and it's a great way to get to know others in the group.

Who am I and why am I doing this?

My name is Deana and I am the chief curator and head pain coach at Pain 2 Possibilities. I am 52 years old, mother of 3 awesome teenagers and I have been working as a Wellness Coach and Movement specialist for over 27 years. I have been working with persistent pain warriors for 13 years now and I have to say...chronic pain champions are amazing!

Sadly, it is a community that receives little to no support. It is my mission to start bridging the gap between our physicians and chronic pain patients and helping our community to become their own health advocate with self care. Running a support forum is  just one of the ways Pain 2 Possibilities is helping to bridge that gap. The support forum taps into two of the most powerful, yet underutilized tools in the pain management toolbox and that is... sharing common experiences through meaningful human connections.
